Dear fam
From reading the emails it seems like the Christmas get together and show will be a lot of fun. (as a family we're going to be feeding and entertaining at a homeless shelter on Dec. 23)
Dad’s shoulder doesn’t sound like too much fun but it will hopefully make him take a break from his go go go. Will he go to the same doctor I went to for the surgery? or just get it done in Phx because of all the family getting together... pshhh I don’t know if it’s too much fun with the surgery. :)
Dad is the new gospel doctrine teacher. awesome! What’s your calling mom?
Yup Tiffany came to church with her boy friend, fiancĂ© or whatever he is. They were only able to come to church for sacrament because of some family complications. Having to deal with kids and who has custody of them for how many days and hours seems like such a mess. We will be hopefully teaching her today. She has given up coffee but needs to give up smoking - it would have been possible yesterday but she has to be clean for 2 weeks ... Hopefully tonight we will teach her and figure out another date. Billy the man figure in her life seems to be holding down her potential to really grow and is holding her back. Tiffany has the will power and drive to get into the gospel but I don’t know about her and Billy. Wednesday Billy and Tiffany went to the church addiction recovery class. We went as well. It was really good basically a spirit bomb and a big boost to go and fight off the addictions whatever it may be. There’s no confession in the class, so no one knows what each person is struggling with - there’s the good and bad that comes with that, but being in the church setting and I understand why it is the way it is. Than after that we had a lesson with them. Sister Blake came along. Sis Blake is so legit! It went really good. Billy had been in a car accident with no insurance and without a drivers license and got a really bad concussion (been forgetting a lot of stuff and has too many marbles in his mouth) he has been under a 2 week watch where he can’t be alone. We gave him a blessing and things seem to be doing better for the situation he is in.
Right after that we gave a blessing to a member who is kind of a convert and has been in LA, she is about 20. Shelia is her name. Really been a struggle with faith -her family has been tearing her down and priesthood holders have been turning her down to give her a blessing (her wards missionaries, and her bishop) They said to go to her home teachers ... well she doesn’t have any but she was so shocked she didn’t say she didn’t have home teachers. The sisters said elders come with us and give her a blessing. We talked with Shelia for a long time about the things going on in her life and it seemed to really help. Gave her a blessing and she said " that was almost word for word my patriarchal blessing" that was a neat experience. She gave us a letter at church saying thanks (she is in 2nd ward).
Elder Marks is Elder Marks. He set a goal to exercise in the morning about 2 weeks ago.... but no real improvement but the he is slowing down on the complaining about the cold, that’s a huge jump :) the kid is doing as good as is possible in his situation.
On thanksgiving we are going to the Rackham’s. Josh has come out with us a few times he is the 18 year old son, solid missionary already. Allison the 10 year old and is a swimmer and the 16 is ummmm Lori and there’s an older daughter but I don’t know her. Anyway nice solid family, willing to give us some grub. In the morning we are going to a turkey bowl with roc 5. Elder Bowen and I have almost perfected a sweet play. It’s where I run like crazy and then jump and somehow every time it gets in my hands, but sometimes my being a butterfinger, I drop it.
We met with an excommunicated member. She has frogs everywhere! We had asked why she liked frogs so much. She simply said "forever rely on God", that gave a new meaning to that. She said she wants to come back into the gospel and being able to receive the fullness of the blessings in store for her.
I got some pictures I’ll send in a separate email plus I’ll send out the sd card with all the pictures of me for the family picture. Hopefully one of them works.
I love you all
elder baker
