May 21, 2012
dear fam,
It was really goodish week.(I've never heard that word before ... have you?) Our
teaching hit really low. Alot of the new investigators that we found are now in
the former category. Really sad but if the investigator isn’t willing to commit
and change than it isn’t worth the effort on both sides...
We do have a date set, who will be baptized
in August 11. She is 30s and has a 9 year old daughter. The mother is a lot
like grandma Jo. Making a living off
making her own things. She does tons of crafts, earrings, dream catchers,
towels etc... her house is packed. We taught her the word of wisdom (wow)
she doesn’t drink coffee, or alcohol because she is allergic to so many things.
She drinks a ton of tea. We traded her tea for the herbal tea. Rather expensive
stuff, but totally worth it.
One other investigator that is 30. He
dislikes reading and so he listened to the BofM. He committed himself to come
to church once he had finished that. Last week he came to church and loved it.
He was unable to this last week because family down in Bloomington wanted to
see him. Anywho ... I have come to realize that a lot of investigators if they
dont know the person that is joint teaching than the lesson doesn’t go as well.
When they do know the joint teacher and have the title of friend. Joint
teachers that are friends or are at least just willing to shake a hand at
church and say "hi I am so and so" makes investigators and the
missionaries happy. If members want to see baptisms in the congregation they
have to be willing to step out of their comfort zone a little bit. Plus
missionaries should be calling members and setting it all up, so it does
happen.
We had really good finding this
week. We had an average of about 3.5 people each day say come on back. The standard
of excellence is 2 a day. We have changed our contacting instead of just
going for them to say come back we are trying to weed them out to see if they
are willing to listen to lessons and come closer to Christ. So many people are
willing to listen or to say yes but only a few people are willing to change.
There was one night this week. my
stomach was out of control and I just wasn’t feeling very good and I was
letting the situations of a few difficult things get to me. I was rolling
around in bed so I finally just got out of bed and said a prayer. Then I got
back in bed and slept really well.
Whole week elder Watkins and I have
been able to go to bed early (10:30) and wake up at 6:30. it’s been a nice week
of "rest"
Today is transfer day and well...
tons to do. I am staying and elder Watkins is going to Hudson, Wisconsin
to be a zone leader there. I am getting elder Wixom who I have been serving
around this last transfer in the ward. Right now is Elder Veni's companion. I
will be training him, taking over the area, and the zone... bring it on :)
These pictures are from elder Watkins
camera, keep them safe
hope all is well in az. heard a few days
were over 100 already :) (Just
rub it in . . .)

Last call from the mission . . .
3 quick
little emails from Rhett this week, along with some fun pictures . . . I’ll be
attaching them soon.
1) Dear fam,
I am glad
the visit last night (with
Dave and Sharon Gilbert, friends from Tucson who live in Yellowstone) went well.
It was
amazing doing numbers last night, all the district leaders where not focused.
But they all understand as I do, that when your talking with family its almost
as if you are with them and can be a little “unfoucusing” but once that call is
ended, it’s back to the grind, getting things done.
I don’t
remember timing John while he ran. I do remember though when he came down and
we went to get nickos or something like that near picture rocks. I believe I
stayed up in yellowstone two times - the once with Spencer and was there
another time where I flew by myself? ... I remember being in the car with jAnn
for a while.
Fun week
this week. As of now there are no travel plans and we get to work in our area
all week :) that’s a blessing.
Hope all is
well

2) Here are some pictures from elder
Watkins camera.
This morn
we went and studied next to the lake. A beautyfull creation that is right
here:)
The Bacons
(Rhett skyped at their
house for our Mother’s Day visit) offered to that if I want to come up
some time after the mission to defiantly take them up on a place to stay. I
hope I get to take them up on it.

3) The a few of the pictures are taken
from Still Water, which is a resort up in Gran Marie which is by the Boundary
Waters, a beautyfull sight :) (I think I’m going to have to teach him how to spell beautiful!)
Talked with
the mission home and they got the address right. (People have been having their letters returned – the
mission home was forwarding mail to the wrong address – YIKES! Really, twice during his mission?)
These are
taken with Elder Gotferdsons camera set it in the water and took the picture.
We are at Lake Superior walk near the rose garden.

dear fam,
My guess
that’s a few zones, three of four.
(I’m helping feed
he missionaries at a Zone Conference on Thursday and was asking him how big his
zone was.)
When did
Cord get baptized?! I don’t
remember hearing about that, that’s super good!
We will be
skyping, it’ll be at the Bacon’s.
I am going to snail mail my sd card home full of pictures with the
Bacon’s information feel free to call and set all that jazz up with them. (YIKES, this is Monday and we have to be ready on Sunday,
does he think that information is gonna get here in time? Obviously calling home is not top on
his priority list.)
Those
elders are doing well. Elder Katoa (his 2nd companion and one of his favorites) white
washed in to Ascove and enjoying the struggles that go along with that. Elder
Pedersen (his last
companion who Rhett worked so hard with to keep him on his mission and now is
serving faithfully) has grown up a lot and doing well. I plan to visit
him as much as possible which may not be very often, but will be fun... (when they get home I think)
Monday we
traveled down to Bloomington to have zone leader council it was crazy intense.
I meet an elder that was in one ward where Mitch served Elder Renal. It must
have been after he bit the tailgate of the truck... but I’m not totally sure.
All Elder Rena really remembers is how goofy he was/ is and his big flippen
cheeks… that’s right fatty.
Tuesday
went to North Branch and got caught in a crazy storm, a little nerve racking at
that moment. We had all the
windows open at night because it was a little too warm inside (80) and cooler
out side. The tornado sirens went off and well no one heard it. Elder Watkins sleeps really hard and
I'm not sure why the other elders didn’t wake up but the screens on the window
blew off and a lot of stuff got soaked. North Branch is a beautiful place.
Wednesday...
did some emergency things... I felt tons of pressure and it wasn’t very
enjoyable but all turned out for the better. (what
does that mean?)
Thursday
morning we got back in our area. We had 7 member presents planned out and they
were really solid but for some reason only one carried through… it was rather
depressing but all will turn out for the better. Friday was a slow day lots of
calls and trainings over the phone...
Saturday we
went up the shore to Boundary Waters I think its spelled Grand Merae. It was
funnn! We took
Elder Veni
and Wizom, our district leader and his companion. They serve with us in the
North Shore Ward. We ended up in the car for 6 hours. it was
soooooooooooooooooooooooo beautiful and the spirit chastised all of us for not
doing more work up there. It’s really difficult because of the drive times and
miles, but it was way worth it.
Sunday was
good. Had some interesting, I'm not sure what to call it, but fast Sunday
testimonies… well, they were not testimonies... it was really odd and strange.
I ready my scriptures instead :)
This week
we did about 500 miles in the car... we have 2300 miles and we are using them
up really quick. There was a period of 4 days where things where going south
and we weren't able to study. It was a huge bummer and I really missed having
that feast to set me right and give me something to feed off of.
Well all is
well. Life is going good. Lots of pressure. Everywhere I turn it seems to be more pressure. Just
like coach always said "pressure makes diamonds".
I have a
lot to report to President this week.
I hope all is well. Thank you for the prayers and thoughts.
Love
Elder baker
