January 9, 2012

Hello family,

Time is flying by really fast and seems to only go faster. (someone forgot to tell him that's how missions are . . .)

We were able to get an investigator to church. The 9 am session seems to be a rough change. Maybe it’s only because people haven’t figured out the timing issue and get to church on time. We texted an investigator that we where saving seats for her and that woke her up and than half an hour later she came to church,  and really had a great time. She has been close to baptism but a few of the commandments have been a struggle because she hasn’t been converted that keeping commandments and following them is a blessing not a torture, that was excellent for that to click. She was the only one that came to church. We will call her Carla. Carla’s boy friend will be moving out soon or they will be getting married. Tonight we are going to go see them and help in the process whatever it may be.

Last week was a much more fruitful week. Elder Pedersen is feeling "better" and we have really done a lot of great work setting up appointments and working really hard. This Wednesday we have 5 appointments set up and that’s just one day :0 I’m exited to get the English work moving, and it’s not only in Rochester but also in Pine Island. Saturday we arranged rides to and from making it possible to truly work all day there. Brother Fletcher has been a huge help in getting all this set up with rides and joint teachers, on the ball get it done attitude. I love it! In the week we spent about 20 or so hours with him helping him understand the area, getting to know the guidelines of missionary work and really putting the nose to the grind. We had a few "early mornings” up at 4 to be at meetings at 530 … uggg missionary schedule got to bed at 1030 and wake up early. We had 3 days just about like that luckily only one at 530 one at 6 and the last one was at 730 so progressively able to sleep in more :)

This week we had specialized training interviews. This interview was definitely a life changing experience. To sum it up in just a few words, president told me elder Pedersen is the most important convert I will have on my mission.  It was a companion interview, with my brother sitting right next to me.  It was a long chat but a great one. We concluded with me giving him a blessing.

The training was on dinners with members and making better use of comp study and specifically how to make better lesson plans and where to start with them. My mind was on the interview the whole time so I didn’t really listen :/

Ty and Blondie seem to be doing well for the situations that they are in. Yesterday all we talked about was the military. Ty seemed to really enjoy that and Blondie would put her few cents in being the coidian (person's profession making others laugh) (he couldn't figure out how to spell comedian . . . hahaha) it was a great visit.

Dodge ball on Mondays may be going down the drain. There are some liabilities that we didn’t think about ... but we will continue to try. Last week we had 30 people show up. 18 members 2 nonmembers and 10 missionaries. great turn out. We are also trying to fit peoples schedule so we can have more people and nonmembers. One member of the district wants dedicated athletes. I don’t think he understands that after 5 pm we can’t as missionaries play dodge ball and if they are dedicated athletes Saturdays will be hard with competitions and practices. Its gotta be a broad all over the board decision.

Yes I got the box of chocolates and all the gifts that I got. Thanks a bunch for those! defiantly adding to my tubbyness. Elder Pedersen refuses to eat candy, he is on his 6 months to sexy... funny kid. He goes home in 6 months so he is trying to lose what little weight he has and get stronger.  It may help if he wakes up and exercises but that’s just one thing we are working on. I haven’t gotten the one with the photo shop pictures. I did get jAnn's that she put together... it definately made me miss the family a lot, but made me grateful I have you for eternity not just a few short years.  (ahhh, and we miss you Elder Rhetty!)

Tuesday we did the high school presentation. There were some questions that we (the whole district 10 missionaries) did have to answer … garments, celestial kingdom, sons of perdition .... this group didn’t know their sources and it was like a bad bible bash, but some kids took copies of the Book of Mormon, those seeds are planted.

On Sunday President Kurr from the mission presidency came to visit the ward. He gave a great training on the ward mission plan. This ward has had a struggle with that.  This defiantly impacted the ward and the auxillaries :)

I love you all
